My board on Pinterest

Hello again and happy leap year day everybody!

As you already know, my classmates and I created a common board on Pinterest for our ICT class in the Masters. What you don't know is that, after that, we were asked to create our own personal board where we had to post the resources that we liked the most from this common bank, or found that could be of more use for our future CLIL projects. 

I must confess here, before all of you, that I have had a Pinterest account for ages now but I never really appreciated its use. In fact, I thought it was just a tool to find ideas and resources for making crafts.Now, in contrast, not only do I know that Pinterest is way more than that, but I also wouldn't know what to do without it! 

Why has Pinterest become so important to me? Well, you see, as I told you in one of my latest posts, I think it is very positive for us, as teachers to share our ideas, resources and experiences with one another, since this enhances our teaching practice enormously. This webtool allows you to do so while it provides you with the opportunity to organize your own resources, as you can keep all of them in one place. Isn't that great? 

So, to lead by example, here is the link to my own personal board in Pinterest: I know that at the moment it only contains 12 resources but I hope you find them useful. I promise to keep it up and to continue finding more and more useful tips and materials for CLIL!

Sharing knowledge


My Masters' classmates and I created a common board in Pinterest for our ICT class. There, each of us shared 6 CLIL resources which we believed could come in handy for our lessons. Click here if you want to have a look:   

As I see it, this is a wonderful idea because it allows us to learn from each other, something that will benefit all of us in the present, as students of the Masters, and also in the future, as bilingual teachers. As the saying goes, "two heads are better than one", so imagine what can we do with 32 heads! 

The following are the resources that I shared within this common board: 

  • 50 practical ideas to organize your classroom, where you will find everything you need for organizing your CLIL classroom. Hope you find the tips here as useful as I do!
  • 3 Sample ways to display classroom language. Beginning with CLIL is not an easy task. That's why we must always provide our students with visual support so that they become familiar with the most common classrom language.
  • A webpage for finding resources and sample didactic units for each of the 6 years of primary education. Here you will also find a long list of ICT resources to use in your lessons. Very complete and useful!
  • A video to teach our student how our muscular system works in a fun and clear way. 
  • A webpage for finding a great variety of wonderful resources to plan your Science lessons, from videos explaining different topics to quizzes for practising what has been learnt. Science can be so much fun!
  • And another website for teaching our students about the physical and political geography of different countries and continents through games.

My blog's license

Hello everybody! 

It's been a few days since my last post and I wanted to let you know that I'm fine! I've just been a bit busy. 

In case you haven't noticed, at the bottom of my blog you are now able to see an image like this which means that I got a "Creative Commons License". What is that? Well it's basically a legal way of permitting the public of your publications to share and use your ideas and materials under the terms and conditions you choose. 

In the following picture you will be able to see the different Creative Commons licenses there are available, so you can choose the one you think suits you the best. 

As you can see, the license I chose for my blog allows others to share, copy and redistribute my publications. It also allows my blog’s visitors to adapt, transmit or build upon them. As a condition, they will always have to provide a link to my license, and not use any of my materials for commercial purposes.

I chose this license because I think it is really enriching for us, as teachers, to share our ideas and materials, as well as our experiences with them. This will allow us to learn from each other, and thus, to enhance our teaching practice. However, I chose not to allow anybody to economically benefit from my materials because I believe that improving education should be something that teachers do selflessly.

My PLE (Personal Learning Environment) and PLN (Personal Learning Network) on CLIL

Hello again everybody!

The first time I heard about CLIL was when I was taking my degree at the University of Granada. However, I barely learnt anything about it there. Four years later, I decided to take this Masters on bilingual teaching and here was when I really began to learn about this approach. Now, four months after the beginning of the Masters I feel that, even though I have gained a lot of knowledge on the matter, I still have a long way to go in my training. That’s why, when I have the opportunity I try to keep up with my learning by searching for more information in the internet.

Some of the tools I use for that purpose are:
  • Moodle platform, where my teachers and classmates of the Masters share all kinds of information about this approach.
  • Google and Scholar Google. This is where I obtain most of my sources of information about CLIL. I turn to Google whenever I want to find articles by a certain author, sample activities, or maybe a very concrete fact because it allows me to find what I’m looking for very quickly.
  • Twitter. I use twitter to read the views and ideas that teachers working with this approach have on it, to find resources to work with and also to share my thoughts and knowledge on this matter.
  • Youtube. I use this web tool to watch videos, such as TED talk shows about CLIL or education in general, and songs that might come in handy for my lessons.
  • Pinterest, where I can find a wide variety of sample activities to carry out in class.
  • Blogs. I visit the blogs of teachers and other professionals in the field of education to learn from their experience in CLIL. 

Finally, I also try to share all the knowledge I gain about this approach, and about the methodologies related to it, as much as I can. To that end, and as reflected in my diagram, the tools that I use are: twitter, blogger, and Moodle platform. It is important to mention that, since I’m taking a traineeship at a bilingual school at the moment, I also have the opportunity to apply some of this knowledge, something that allows me to test different methodologies and judge their effectiveness.

Without further delay, here’s my PLE and PLN diagram for CLIL. I chose to make it because, after having had a look at various tools, I thought this was the one that could fit the best the idea that I had in mind of how I wanted my final mind map to look like. This web tool allows you to choose between a wide variety of backgrounds and shapes, and also to upload pictures and to draw lines and arrows, facts that make it very useful for personalizing your mind maps.

Learning by twittering

We cannot argue that new technologies have made our life easier in many different ways. Nowadays, for example, we are all connected 24/7 and within a click distance, we can communicate with whoever we want, no matter how far away they are from us.

In the field of education, new technologies have also made a great impact. Today, we have far more learning resources that we did in the past and they are also easier to access. Furthermore, the fact that the Information and Communication Technologies facilitate the communication between people from different parts of the world, enables us to talk with a wide variety of professionals in our field of knowledge and to exchange information and experiences with them. An example of these kinds of new resources would be Twitter.

Twitter is an online social network that allows users to post short messages and share them with their "followers". Users can "follow" any other registered user in order to keep updated about their latest news. Through Twitter I've learnt about different teaching methodologies, resources or activities that I have later applied in my projects for the Masters or during my traineeship at a bilingual school. Besides, it has also allowed me to get in contact with expert teachers on CLIL, something that has broaden my knowledge on this approach, which is the one in which my Masters is mainly based on.

3,2,1 Presentation

Hello everybody!

Once again, welcome to my blog and thank you for stopping by. Now that you are here, I would like you to know a little bit more about me. For that, I'm posting here a little video presentation I did for my Master's ICT class in which I used a method called 3,2,1 (3 relevant facts about me, 2 of my favourite things in the world and 1 dream occupation if I wasn't a teacher). 

I chose Powtoon to make this presentation. Powtoon is an online tool to make all kinds of presentations and animated videos as an alternative to more static, traditional presentation programs, such as PowerPoint. If you are a teacher, I would totally recommend you to use this tool with your students, as it will allow you to use a wide variety of effects in your texts and images, something that will definitely help you to catch their attention.

Personally, I found PowerToon to be a very attractive and visual tool, facts that, as we all know, are essential for working with Primary school students. However, if one doesn’t have premium account the amount of resources to use are limited. Besides, it also tends to crash frequently.

All in all, my experience with this tool has been rather positive and I will definitely consider it for my future as a teacher.
